France's April 2027 presidential election features a two-round system and an unusually crowded field driven by Emmanuel Macron's constitutional ineligibility after two consecutive terms. He has stated he will exit active politics upon leaving office in May 2027. Marine Le Pen awaits a July 2027 appeals court ruling that could enforce a five-year public-office ban, potentially clearing the path for Jordan Bardella as National Rally standard-bearer. Multiple candidates have already declared, including Jean-Luc Mélenchon on the left and Bruno Retailleau for The Republicans, while Edouard Philippe polls strongly as a centrist alternative. A fragmented center and left-wing primary efforts add further uncertainty to the final ballot composition.
