Sofia Polcanova and Hitomi Sato meet in the women's singles round of 16 at the WTT Contender Zagreb on June 12, 2026. Sato enters with strong recent momentum, posting a 4-1 record in her last five outings and holding the No. 22 WTT world ranking as of April. The Japanese left-hander's defensive chopping style has proven effective against varied opponents, including deep runs in prior 2026 Contender events. Polcanova, a two-time European singles champion and 2025 world doubles silver medalist, sits slightly behind in recent form at 3-2 but brings extensive international experience and attacking power. Sato leads their head-to-head 2-1, though the Austrian's European pedigree and adaptability on the table could shift the matchup in a best-of-seven format.
