OpenAI is advancing confidential IPO preparations with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, targeting a potential September 2026 debut or fourth-quarter listing after its most recent private funding round closed at an $852 billion post-money valuation in March 2026. The company, which reported an approximate $20 billion annual revenue run rate entering 2026 while remaining unprofitable amid heavy infrastructure spending, has discussed raising at least $60 billion in an offering that could support a market capitalization approaching or exceeding $1 trillion. This timeline follows OpenAI’s structural transition to a for-profit entity and occurs amid broader AI-sector IPO momentum, with market-implied valuations reflecting sustained institutional demand for exposure to generative AI growth despite elevated capital requirements and regulatory scrutiny.
