California’s 14th Congressional District holds a special primary on June 16, 2026, to fill the vacancy created by Eric Swalwell’s April resignation. The Alameda County-based seat remains strongly Democratic, with voter registration and past results favoring the party by wide margins. A crowded field of Democratic candidates, including state Senator Aisha Wahab who received the California Democratic Party endorsement, competes alongside others such as Melissa Hernandez and Victor Aguilar. Republican contenders including Wendy Huang and Dena Maldonado also appear on the ballot. Under California’s top-two primary system, the leading vote-getters advance to an August 18 general election if no candidate secures a majority. The outcome hinges on Democratic voter consolidation and turnout in this low-turnout special election.
