Big Tobacco firms like Philip Morris International, Altria, and British American Tobacco already control major nicotine pouch players through prior deals, with Zyn leading via PMI's Swedish Match ownership and On! and Velo backed by Altria and BAT respectively. The category's explosive growth, driven by adult consumer shifts away from traditional cigarettes, has prompted portfolio expansions such as Imperial Brands' May 2026 acquisition of Black Buffalo to broaden its modern oral offerings. Altria's On! range expansions and BAT's Velo Plus launches signal ongoing investment in authorized products amid FDA reviews and rising market share competition. Traders watch for further consolidation of independent or emerging brands as the smoke-free segment accelerates toward regulatory milestones and production scaling in 2026.
