Kareem Allam holds the strongest position among candidates for Vancouver mayor in the October 17, 2026, election because he managed Ken Sim’s successful 2022 ABC Vancouver campaign and later served as the incumbent’s chief of staff before launching an independent Vancouver Liberals bid last fall. Recent months have featured Allam’s public criticism of Sim’s record on affordability, safety, and taxes alongside Sim’s own re-election announcements and business-community outreach. Multiple other declared candidates, including Pete Fry of the Greens, William Azaroff of OneCity, and independents such as Rebecca Bligh and Colleen Hardwick, have further fragmented the field without evident coordination. Traders appear to view this split in centrist and progressive support, combined with Allam’s organizational experience, as the primary driver favoring his outcome over the incumbent.
