Iván Cepeda Castro’s commanding position in trader consensus for second place in Colombia’s May 31 first-round presidential vote stems from official preliminary results showing him at approximately 40.9 percent, behind Abelardo de la Espriella’s 43.7 percent but far ahead of all other contenders. With nearly complete vote tallies confirming this ordering, market pricing reflects the certified outcome rather than pre-election polling volatility. Earlier surveys had positioned Cepeda as the likely leader or close second, yet late shifts consolidated right-leaning support behind de la Espriella while fragmenting the remainder among multiple candidates. Absent any successful legal challenges to the count or revisions by electoral authorities, these verified results leave little room for alternative resolutions in the 1st-round 2nd-place market.
